Countdown begins to launch of Natural Gas Extension ProjectFeb 18, 2011

THE Natural Gas Extension Project will provide all existing and prospective central heating gas customers with improved security of supply, greater choice in appliances for heating and cooking and improved safety as a result of the survey.

This is the view of Aidan Baglow, conversion project manager at Manx Gas who adds:  “It is an infrastructure project which will benefit not only the 6,800 homes and business to be converted to natural gas by giving freedom of choice when buying gas appliances, but also and the existing LPG central heating customers, by having the all island central heating tariff.”
His comments come as Manx Gas prepares to launch the first phase of the two-year project on 28 February when a team of Isle of Man based Gas Safe engineers who have been locally trained to be certified Conversion engineers will carry out a pre-conversion survey of all the 6,800 properties.  It will begin in Ramsey before moving to the South and finally the West of the Island.

“This survey is crucial to the success of the Project and will provide us with the correct information support an efficient conversion process. This is a customer driven project and our priority is to ensure that all customers and potential customers are kept fully informed as to what is happening.

“During this survey, which should take no more than two hours, the engineers will identify all connected gas appliances, perform a gas safety inspection and do minor repairs on certain safety related defects which may be discovered during the survey.  From this survey we will order all the necessary parts in readiness to convert customers to natural gas in 2012.”
Mr Baglow emphasises that the Project will be customer led and every attempt made to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum.

“This project is going to bring benefits to our customers and to the island. The planning period has been successful and we are now looking forward to it getting under way.”
